Copy That Workshops

Over the last two months, I’ve worked with women from the East Meets West group and people who attend groups at Lancashire Youth Challenge.
The workshops are part of the Copy That project, celebrating the life and work of Karel Klic. He came to Lancaster in the 1890s and developed the photogravure printmaking process with the support of the Storey Brothers. With support from Heritage Lottery funding, Mirador Arts have commissioned various workshops as part of the wider project. Thank you to Steve Fairclough for all the support too.

During the weekly sessions, I supported group members to create images which convey aspects of their stories and identity.
Using ‘pattern’ as a theme, we reflected on its meaning in our daily lives. We considered the role of patterns within heritage and culture, our habits and behaviours, in music, identity and symbolism.
Some photos were printed onto transparent sheets and others onto paper. The images were then combined, using a photocopier to create new layers of story.
